ISLAMABAD: The United States (US) on Saturday denied visa to Senate Deputy Chairman Abdul Ghafoor Haideri.
The cleric had requested for the visa to attend a talk as the head of a parliamentary delegation on February 13 and 14 in New York, a private TV channel reported. The senator had requested for the visa last week. Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani reacted sharply to the insult, saying that no parliamentary delegation would be sent to the US in the future.
In his letter to United Nations (UN), Rabbani stated that no parliamentary delegation would be sent to the US unless the Trump administration explains reasons for rejecting Abdul Ghafoor Haideri’s visa request. The Senate deputy chairman was scheduled to visit the US along with Senator Salahuddin Tirmizi to attend the inter-parliamentary hearings at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York on February 13-14.
When Daily Times contacted US Embassy spokeswoman Fleur Cowan, she said she cannot comment on the visa cases. They are private, she added.
“No delegation, member of congress or diplomat of the US will be welcomed by the senate of Pakistan, senate standing committees and the senators in their official capacity till this issue is resolved,” the Senate chairman said.
