ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday criticised the blasphemous caricature competition announced a Dutch politician and said his government will raise the issue in the United Nations.
The prime minister made these remarks during his first address to the Senate following the upper house adopted a unanimous resolution against the cartoon competition.
“I know the European mindset, the don’t understand our love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH). They don’t understand how much such actions are hurting for Muslims,” said the prime minister.
“We will not tolerate such acts against muslims,” said PM Imran adding his government will take up the issue in the United Nations.
The resolution which was tabled by Leader of the House Shibli Faraz ‘strongly condemned the Dutch lawmaker’s act and urged the government to summon the Dutch envoy to record its protest.
“This House strongly condemns the venomous, vicious and contemptuous decision of Geert Wilders, the notorious Islamophobe, belonging to the Dutch Party of Freedom, to hold a ‘Draw Muhammad Cartoon Competition’ to be held later this year in Netherlands,” read the resolution.
“No muslim can bear the blashphemy of the Holy Prophet (PBUH),” it read.
The resolution also demanded a session of Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) be called to condemn the action.
