LAHORE: Seven people lost their lives in various traffic accidents caused by dense fog and low visibility and various cities of Punjab.
At least 20 vehicles collided near Sial Mor at Motorway, killing one person and injuring 25 others. Two others were killed and one sustained wounds when a bus and truck collided in Faisalabad.
At least five people were injured on Sheikhupura GT Road when their vehicles collided due to dense fog. Separately, a woman lost her life after two motorcycles hit each other near Mandi Ahmedabad in Okara.
Four people were wounded in an accident in Pakpattan. Three others were killed and five sustained injuries when a bus rammed into a rickshaw in Sukkur after the driver lost its control.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway was reopened after remaining closed for 13 hours. Authorities have advised drivers to travel during daytime.
Several Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights were also cancelled due to fog. A PIA spokesman said that the weather condition was expected to prevail for the next few days. “PIA has to adjust the timings of its flights due to such weather conditions, as the airline cannot operate flights with poor visibility and also keeping in view the safety requirements. This, results in either cancellation of the flights or flights operated with delays,” he said.
The flights revised for Wednesday were: PK 650; PK651 Lahore-Islamabad-Lahore operated with a delay of two hours; PK304-305 Karachi-Lahore-Karachi operated with a delay of 1 hour; while PK 307 Lahore -Karachi and PK 312 Karachi-Lahore were cancelled.
The following flights have also been revised for Thursday: PK 650, PK651 Lahore-Islamabad-Lahore will operate with a delay of two hours whereas PK451 and PK 452 Islamabad-Skardu-Islamabad will operate two hours early of scheduled time.
The following flights were also cancelled: PK 390 and PK391 Karachi-Sukkur-Islamabad-Sukkur-Karachi; PK588 & PK589 Karachi -Bahawalpur-Karachi; PK 582 & PK 583 Karachi-RahimYar Khan- Karachi; PK 651 & PK 652 Lahore-Bahawalpur-Lahore; and PK584 and PK 585 Karachi-Dera Ghazi Khan-Karachi.
