LAHORE: A student of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) was found dead in his hostel room on Monday.
In a note released to its students and administration, LUMS administration said “It is with deep sorrow that we are writing to share very tragic news: Our LUMS student and hostel resident Shahmir Asif Bajwa has passed away.”
According to details, Shahmir was found ‘unresponsive’ lying on his bed in his hostel room on December 12. Shahmir was shifted to National Defence Hospital, where the doctors said he had expired earlier during the day.
Initial reports suggested that Shahmir died due to cardiac arrest caused by drug overdose but the hospital says that the final conclusion can be only given once the post-mortem is done which is expected to be carried out today.
Management at LUMS University however, denied that the case was of drug overdose.
After the information about the cause of death being “drug overdose” surfaced in the media, management of LUMS reached Dailytimes with following information:
“It is with deep sorrow that we are writing to share very tragic news: Our LUMS student and hostel resident Shahmir Asif Bajwa has passed away.
Shahmir was found unresponsive in bed in his room. LUMS administration was called when efforts to rouse him failed. Shahmir was immediately taken to the nearest hospital (National Defence Hospital) where the doctors pronounced that he had expired earlier in the day.
Family has been informed. They have requested that their privacy be respected and our thoughts and prayers are with them. Our first concern in this tragedy is to support his family and each other.
The matter is currently under investigation and we are not in a position to make any statement until the autopsy results are available. We would be grateful if the media would respect the family’s privacy during this tragedy and refrain from any speculation as to the cause of death until the investigation is complete.”
Shamir’s family has reached Lahore from Karachi today as they were unable to arrive earlier due to the prevailing fog in Punjab.
