KARACHI: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Sunday that the Interior Ministry would issue a notification on Dawn Leaks in a day or two.
Addressing a meeting of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) in Karachi on Sunday, she said that before the issuance of the notification, it would not be appropriate to say anything on the matter.
“Politics is being done over Dawn Leaks – the Interior Ministry will issue a notification on Dawn Leaks tomorrow or day after tomorrow as directed by Prime Minister Nawaz,” she said, adding that the notification would address all apprehensions. “Today, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has also met the PM on this issue,” she said.
“A detailed notification will be issued which will tell us who played what role in Dawn Leaks. It is premature now to comment on what is in it and what are the recommendations,” she said.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family are willing to present themselves at any level to face the charges of Panama Leaks. They will face the issue for the sake of democracy,” she said.
She said that the government believed in freedom of expression and it would ensure such rights in the country at all levels.
“Constructive and positive criticism will be appreciated and media houses should avoid destructive and damaging criticism and should take into account national security while reporting. The government will resolve all problems being faced by the media in consultation with CPNE and other journalists of the country,” the minister said.
She said a film policy was also being formulated for the first time ever in Pakistan and the golden age of the industry would be revived. “The national narrative can be established by implementing effective film and curriculum policy,” she said.
To a question, she said that Interior Ministry would issue a notification regarding Dawn Leaks and all responsible persons would be brought to justice.
“For the prosperity of Pakistan, terrorism and extremism must be eliminated. All political parties and citizens have to work together. While reporting, media must consider the honour and security of the country,” she said.
On the occasion, CPNE Secretary General Ejazul haq said that state minister must consider resolving the issue related to advertisements for the newspapers and automation system of ABC and other issues.
On the occasion, CPNE Principal Information Officer Muhammad Saleem, PID Karachi DG Sikandar Shah and others were also present.
