JACOBABAD: Three men, including one landlord, have been arrested by police for ordering a man to give his daughters as ‘compensation’ for his brother’s crime.
The landlord, Abdul Ghaffar Khoso, had made the demand for ‘compensation’ while the two others were with him in the jirga which made the decision. Police have also filed cases against the others who were present at the jirga in Zubair Khan Khoso Goth situated in Jacobabad, Sindh.
The Supreme Court has also taken notice of the issue after Muhammad Hashim protested outside the press club against the jirga’s demand.
The jirga had been constituted over an issue regarding Hashim’s brother, who was in a relationship with a married woman. However, since his brother was not married and Hashim was the eldest in the family, he was asked to either pay Rs1.3 million or give his four-year-old and eight-year-old daughters as ‘compensation’ for his brother’s actions.
Hashim said he had paid Rs 0.7 million for his brother’s mistake, which was difficult for him as he came from a low-income background. This made it extremely difficult for him to pay the rest of the amount.
Standing outside the press club, he demanded that relevant authorities protect his family.
