ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is all set to formally dispatch letter to Interpol office in France for the arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain.
The letter will be sent to Interpol tomorrow (Thursday), sources said. After receiving formal request, France Interpol would contact relevant country within 15 days for arrest of the accused.
Sources said that FIA has formally received endorsement from the Ministry of Interior which had approved the request of FIA to approach Interpol for the arrest of MQM chief.
Altaf Hussain is wanted in several cases, including those relating to terrorism. Earlier, an anti-terrorism court, while hearing a case had sought to make Altaf’s presence mandatory.
The ministry was of the view that in order to expedite the pending cases against Altaf Hussain in Pakistan, it was necessary that the British authorities share the related evidence with the Pakistani authorities. Sources, however, said that it was unlikely that the British government would handover it citizen, Altaf Hussain, to Pakistan.
