Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has told Britain that he would retrieve wealth ‘looted from Pakistan and stashed in the UK by corrupt Pakistani politicians’, British media reported.
In his first meeting with British officials after winning the general elections, the prime minister-in-waiting made it clear that he would pursue the laundered money.
It is to be noted that the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to jail on a petition filed by the PTI chairman pertaining to the Sharif family’s Avenfield properties.
Imran told British High Commissioner Thomas Drew that it was ‘his firm resolve to bring back the laundered money to the country’.
The British government has brought in a new legislation enabling it to freeze or seize property and assets if there is evidence it was bought with illegal or unexplained wealth.
