LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman taking notice of false media reports that alleged Nawaz Sharif had laundered money to India was absurd and expressed her disappointment at the watchdog’s actions.
She was speaking to the media in Lahore after she had visited Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal to inquire about his health.
She also said that both the State Bank of Pakistan and the World Bank had refuted allegations of money laundering, and said that NAB should not be allowed to smear politicians’ reputation a mere three months before elections.
The minister also addressed the ongoing references against former Premier Nawaz Sharif and his family, and claimed that the investigation had failed to prove a single case of corruption against the ruling party.
Marriyum further said that the cases were a product of political vendetta, and said that despite these challenges, the PML-N would surge to power in the 2018 elections.
