ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in four cases. In 2014, Imran Khan had staged a sit-in in Islamabad against alleged rigging in the 2013 elections. Khan had threatened to shut down the entire country and the protest had continued for a record 104 days. On September 1, 2014, SSP Asmatullah Junejo was roughed up by protesters on the Constitution Avenue. A case was registered against Khan and others for beating up Junejo and five other policemen. Arrest warrants were issued against him. On Tuesday, anti-terrorism court judge Shahrukh Arjuman granted bail to the PTI chief against a surety of Rs 200,000 per case after he appeared before the court. Earlier, Babar Awan had appeared before the court for a hearing of the case and submitted a bail plea. However, Justice Arjuman told the lawyer that bail would only be granted if Khan appeared before the court himself. Khan had previously been declared absconders on November 14, 2014 for not appearing before the ATC.
