ISLAMABAD: The hearing of Panama leaks has entered the final phase and it is likely that the court will give a verdict in a week.
The government and PTI have evolved their future strategy, which would be implemented in case the decision would be against them, however the case would be a major political blow for the party against which the SC would give decision.
The Supreme Court is hearing the case for more than 100 days. After the retirement of Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, a new larger bench was formed on January 4. The hearing also remained suspended for 13 days due to illness of Justice Azmat Saeed.
During the last hearing, the counsel for Nawaz Sharif’s children, Salman Akram Raja, completed his arguments. The court summoned the NAB and FBR top officials along with the relevant record on the next hearing which is going to be held on Tuesday.
Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Ali Zafar said that in his opinion the court has summoned the NAB chairman in connection with the affidavit submitted by Ishaq Dar about money laundering. The court may ask NAB in this regard.
“I am uttering this right from the beginning that the court would constitute a commission instead of taking the matter on its shoulder as SC is not an investigative agency. The probe of the matter is must,” he added.
Another legal expert Chaudhry Faisal said the court has summoned the NAB chairman for explanation on giving undue favour to the Sharifs in the money laundering case. He said that he thinks the court would ask NAB for not submitting appeal in the case of money laundering instead of Dar’s statement.
