ISLAMABAD: Renowned religious scholar, sufi poet and linguist Dr Allama Nasiruddin Hunzai passed away in the United States (US) at age 100.
The deceased would be laid to rest in his ancestral village Hyderabad in Hunza Valley after arrival of his dead body from the US. He was born in 1917 and never schooled formerly, but still authored over 100 books on esoteric concepts of Islam and various shades of Quranic wisdom. His concept of spiritual and Quranic sciences can be observed in several western universities including Oxford as an addition to intellectual inventions in the field of spiritualism and sufism.
His 60 books have been translated into English language by scholar Dr Faquir Hunzai and Rashida Hunzai and some books have also been translated into French, Swedish, Persian, Gujrati and Italian languages by different scholars.
His books titled Book of Healing, the Wise Quran and the World of Humanity and Balance of Realities have gotten special attention in research institutions of western world. Other books included, What is Soul, Rubies and Pearls, Healing through Knowledge, Thousand Wisdoms, Fruit of Paradise, Qurani Menar and Ganj-e Giranmaya.
He was greatly inspired by the highly intellectual concepts of Hakim Pir Nasir Khusraw (1004-1088). He also benefited from works of Maulana Rumi, Pir Shams, Hafiz Sherazi and Sheikh Attar. He composed Sufi poems in four languages including Urdu, Burushaski, Persian and Turkish.
The US President Barack Obama had recently congratulated the celebrated scholar on his 100th birthday and had hoped that his scholarly works would further broaden vision of people in years to come. Nasir Hunzai composed first alphabets for Burushaski, an isolate and very old language of human kind spoken in Gilgit Baltistan besides authoring Burushaski Deewan, first of its kind. It is indeed a source of spiritual inspiration for the people of various cultures. Half of this Deewan has been translated into English, titled ‘Flowers of Paradise’. He also compiled first Burushaski Urdu dictionary jointly published by Karachi University and Burushaski Research Academy in three volumes.
In recognition of his extraordinary literary services, the government of Pakistan had conferred upon him Sitara e Imtiaz in 2001.
