ISLAMABAD: The workers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Mohmand Welfare Organisation (MWO) on Monday held a demonstration against drug dealers at Mian Mandi Bazaar in Mohmand Agency.
Under the leadership of MWO president Mir Afzal, JI leader Amir Muhammad Saeed and PPP worker Gul Zameen Khan, the protesters carried banners and posters inscribed with anti-drugs quotations and chanted slogans against drug dealers and Ice (a form of the potent drug methamphetamine).
In their address to the rally, the political workers said that the residents of Haleemzai tehsil are distressed on the increased consumption of drugs in the region.
They asserted that drugs have devastating consequences for the younger generation.
They claimed that a group of influential people is involved in selling and distributing drugs in the region. The protesters said that robberies and burglaries have escalated besides other culpable crimes. If drugs consumption is not stopped, the crime rate is expected to further escalate. The speakers demanded political administration and other senior officials to take a stern measures against drug dealers in the agency and punish them according to the constitution.
