ISLAMABAD: Leader of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) while addressing the media at the accountability court on Tuesday said that the contentious issue of missing persons is a more pressing matter for the country.
Nawaz Sharif appeared at the court hearing corruption cases against him and his family. He said that it was a grave crime to make a person vanish without leaving any trace whether they were alive or dead.
Sharif expressed concern over the thought of what the families of missing persons had to go through.
Upon being questioned about Monday’s defection of eight party members from South Punjab, Nawaz responded that such members were never a part of the party nor had roots within the party. He added that such people defamed politics by shifting their loyalties with the favourable side each time.
Sharif stated that the party leadership had their eyes on them and foresaw their wavering nature. He added that a similar party emerged in Balochistan out of nowhere as if some revelation descended upon these members from somewhere.
Nawaz claimed that PML-N sweeping the recent Lodhran by-poll elections reflected people’s trust and contentment with the party’s efforts for development.
The phenomenon of enforced disappearances commonly referred to as missing persons’ issue has been a contentious matter in Pakistan for years.
