ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Federal Minister for Privatisation Daniyal Aziz to appear in person on Feb 7 to face contempt of court proceedings over delivering an ‘anti-judiciary’ speech. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar summoned Daniyal after taking suo motu notice of his ‘anti-judiciary’ speech on Friday and issued him contempt of court notice. In its notice, the CJP has not specified that which speech of Daniyal Aziz had contemptuous substance in it. A day earlier, the CJP had taken suo motu notice of a ‘contemptuous’ speech made by PML-N leader and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry during Nawaz Sharif’s Jaranwala rally. Talal Chaudhry was directed to appear before the court in contempt matter on Feb 6. A three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan has been constituted to hear the contempt matter against Talal Chaudhry.
“There was an era when Kaabah was full of idols. Today, the judiciary, which is the country’s highest institution, is also full of PCO idols,” he had told the rally.
