LAHORE: The City School on Monday co-hosted the ‘Lahore leg’ of the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) – part of the pre-games ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games to be held in the Gold Coast, Australia in 2018.
It was the first time that a school in Pakistan has had the honour of hosting such a ceremony. Seven schools of The City School network were involved in handover of the baton at a ceremony in Hazuribagh. Over 200 students participated in the QBR Art Exhibition at the school’s DHA campus. Students also put on a grand display in showcasing all the 34 Commonwealth counties that are due to take part in the games next year.
Speaking at the occasion, Regional Director for the Central Region of The City School Irum Yousuf said, “This is a fantastic honour for our students, The City School and Lahore.”
Director of Studies The City School Philip Hallworth went on to say, “This celebration where culture, sport and education combine is simply a continuation of The City School’s values education programme where our students avail themselves of opportunities to expand their interests in the co-curricular activities.” He added, “Our thanks go to the excellent organization and hard work of the Pakistan Olympic Association and Commonwealth Games Association Pakistan who have made this happen.”
