LAHORE: A full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday warned Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) officials to comply with the court order of issuing degrees to students before the next date of hearing, or be ready to go to jail.
The bench admonished the BZU vice chancellor and the registrar for not issuing degrees to Lahore campus’ students in compliance with an interim court order.
Earlier, the bench on February 7 directed the BZU to issue, as an interim measure, degrees to students, who had passed their examinations at the Lahore sub-campus.
On Monday, counsels for petitioner informed the court that degrees had not been issued to students despite the court’s orders.
The court was hearing petitions of students against the university’s administration after the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) had declared the establishment of the university’s sub-campus in Lahore illegal and subsequently the campus was closed down.
The petitioners had maintained that future of students was at stake due to closure of the sub-campus and non-issuance of degrees.
