CHICHAWATNI: The Punjab Police on Saturday informed the Supreme Court (SC) that the 8-year-old from Chichawatni, who was earlier said to have been raped and murdered, died due to an accident.
The police presented the deceased’s DNA report before the SC, saying that her death was caused due to an accident and that she was not raped and murdered.
It was added that the special investigation team appointed by Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif also found that the death was accidental. The police has also recorded statements of 19 people regarding the case.
According to the police, the 8-year-old Noor Fatima went to a nearby shop and bought firecrackers and sweets. Minutes later, the minor was heard screaming and was found in an unconscious state with burns.
On April 7, it was alleged that the minor had been raped and later murdered. Residents nearby took to the streets to protest against the alleged sexual assault and murder.
Justice Nisar had taken suo moto notice of the case and had ordered Punjab IG to present a report on the matter.
