The National Assembly has passed the bill on Wednesday to bestow status of university upon COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), a Public Sector Degree Awarding Institute.
The bill was presented by the Federal Minister of Defence Production, Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain. A consensus was reached by the parliament after much debate.
The upgradation of CIIT to a ‘University’ is a significant milestone in the Institute’s quest for becoming the nation’s premier higher education inspiration with strong national and international standings.
On this auspicious occasion, Rector of the CIIT, Prof Dr Raheel Qamar (Tamgha-i-Imtiaz) thanked ALLAH for His Blessings and acknowledged the efforts and guidance of Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Founding Rector and Chairman Board of Governors of CIIT. He expressed his gratitude to the Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, all Board members, management of the Institute for their contributions.
The Bill has already been approved by the Senate of Pakistan in December, 2017.
The Rector CIIT further expressed his gratitude to the Government of Pakistan and Parliament for appreciating and considering the status of the Institute among all Higher Education Institutions and Universities of the country.
