LAHORE: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) heard the Zainab suo motu case at its Lahore Registry on Sunday. During the hearing, the apex court hinted towards taking notice of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s anti-judiciary speeches.
At the hearing, a journalist asked why the SC was not taking notice of Nawaz’s speeches. Upon this, the CJP said that there was a proper time to take action in any matter. He also said that they were not showing restraint, but would take notice in the matter at an ‘appropriate’ time. “When we will decide to take notice, no power in the world can force us to stop,” the CJP concluded.
After the issuance of the first Panama Papers verdict on April 20, the PML-N started targeting the SC bench and the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing corruption allegations against the Sharif family. This criticism intensified after the July 28 verdict disqualifying Nawaz Sharif from holding public offices. Later, Nawaz went on a rally across Punjab, wherein he severely criticised judges for disqualifying him based off a misdeclaration in his nomination papers.
