ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is mandated under the Disaster Management Act of 2010, to develop guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for adequate response to disasters, with a special focus on vulnerable population, was said during signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
In order to strengthen its efforts towards reducing the vulnerabilities of women and children in times of disasters, Gender and Child Cell (GCC), NDMA, signed a memorandum of understanding with Care International Pakistan, on “Gender in Emergencies and Building Resilience in Pakistan”.
Under the MoU, both organisations agreed to work in areas of strengthening and institutionalising gender in emergencies, building resilience with climate adoptive sisaster risk reduction, school safety framework scale up and urban resilience.
The MoU was signed by NDMA Chairman Omar Mehmood Hayat and CARE International Pakistan Country Director Ayesha Salma.
Speaking at the occasion, NDMA chairman said that every policy, programme and project affects women and men differently, given their varying roles and responsibilities in society in general.
