ISLAMABAD: Criticising the role of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah Tuesday said that investigation should be launched into the role of the two parties in connection with the passage of the Election Bill 2017 from the Senate.
Talking to the media at his chamber on Tuesday, Shah, in an apparent reference to the Elections Act 2017, under which Nawaz Sharif was re-elected Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president, said that the law was amended just to make a person head of a political party.
Shah said that despite contacting the PTI thrice, it could not suggest the name for the post of chairman of the National Accountability Bureau. “If they don’t suggest a name, I cannot keep on waiting,” he said. The opposition leader said that the selection of the NAB chairman would be done before October 8, and added that he would meet Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in this regard. The National Assembly on Monday passed the Elections Bill 2017, paving way for former deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif to regain chairmanship of the ruling party. The bill was also ratified by President Mamnoon Hussain.
