LAHORE: At least six people were martyred in a blast reported to be a suicide bombing that targeted a census team accompanied by security personnel on Bedian road, Lahore.
14 people were injured and four security personnel were also martyred during the incident, Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmed Khan said.
Security authorities stated that the suicide bomber targeted the census team but it is not confirmed if he did this on foot or while riding a motorcycle.
“I was standing a hundred steps away from the incident,” a witness told media. “I contacted Rescue 1122 which reached the site 20 minutes later.”
Rescue services were available soon after the attack happened and security personnel cordoned off the site.
No terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the blast but Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that it was a regrettable incident and security in Lahore had been on high alert.
