KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has extended felicitation for the newly-elected office-bearers of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and assured full cooperation from his party for protection of journalists and freedom of press.
In a congratulating message to Afzal Butt and Ayub Jan Sarhandi who were elected as PFUJ president and general secretary of in elections held in Quetta, Bilawal eulogized the journalist fraternity for upholding and strengthening democratic traditions among their cadres.
“Media persons have greater role to play in promoting democracy in the country to create a society based on justice and fair-play”, he added.
“Every segment of our country needs unity and brotherhood to promote culture of tolerance and patience, while the journalist community has special responsibility of maintaining a balance in coverage and reporting” he remarked.
Bilawal stated, “Media literacy is the key to a vibrant media and its readership, viewers, who may be well-educated to differentiate between news, propaganda and media-trial”.
He added that elections of the PFUJ body at this juncture are of immense importance and hoped the newly-elected body will take into account its responsibilities for these challenges with an open heart.
He concluded by asking the PFUJ President and General Secretary to convey his felicitations to all other elected office-bearers including the Federal Executive Council.
