ISLAMABAD: The CDWP approved Rs 1.2 billion equipment for five Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) cancer hospitals.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed the PAEC officials to expedite work on the project and complete it by March 2018. The project aims at procuring cancer-related equipment for five of PAEC centres, including two in Lahore (CENUM & INMOL) and one each in Karachi (KIRAN), Bahwalpur (BINO) and Islamabad (NORI).
Overall, the CDWP approved seven projects worth Rs 6.9 billion, including one project costing Rs 3.5 billion, which was referred to the executive committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). It also approved three positions papers and gave concept clearance of two projects.
The meeting was chaired by Ahsan Iqbal and was attended by officers of the provincial governments and ministries concerned.
In higher education sector, CDWP approved upgrading of National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE) Islamabad into a skill university costing Rs 1 billion with FEC 276 million.
Iqbal directed HEC officials to develop a five-year roadmap and ensure to promote vocational and technical education through this university. The CDWP also approved two position papers, including overseas scholarship for Ms/MPhil leading to PhD in selected fields worth Rs 14.5 billion and science talent scheme worth Rs 1514 million for 1,800 young students. The CDWP approved construction of official residence for the National Assembly speaker in Sector F-5/7 Islamabad worth Rs 112 million. It also approved revised project worth Rs 401 million for extension of Intelligence Bureau Academy in H-11/1 Islamabad.
In water resource sector, the CDWP approved payment compensation to the 2007 flood affectees of Mirani dam of 2007 of worth Rs 3.5 billion.
