ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan submitted his reply in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday over a disqualification reference filed against him.
The PTI chief revealed that his Bani Gala residence was to be sold for Rs 43.5 million in 2002. “It was decided that the house would be bought on instalments after the first instalment of Rs 6.5 million was paid. The rest of the money was to be paid after selling the London flat,” Khan said in the reply.
He said that his first wife – Jemima Khan – paid the amount as there was a risk that the contract could be annulled over delayed payment. Khan’s reply further revealed that Jemima transferred the money to Pakistan through legal channels and therefore the tax evasionallegations were baseless.
The PTI chief also said in his reply that the allegations of him not declaring his offshore company – Niazi Services Limited – were also baseless as it had only one asset –Khan’s London flat – which was sold in 2003.
“The offshore company is only limited to papers and I do not have any shares in it,” Khan’s reply said.
PTI Spokesman Naeemul Haque – while speaking to the media outside the ECP – dubbed the two references filed by the National Assembly speaker as ‘illegal’.
