LAHORE: Lahore Mayor Colonel (r) Mubashir Javaid has said that it is a top priority of the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) to eliminate encroachments, illegal parking lots, wall chalking and posters from all roads of the city in general and model roads in particular.
“The MCL has been utilising all its resources in this regard,” the mayor said while chairing a meeting of allied departments at the Town Hall on Wednesday.
He said that there would be smooth flow of traffic after removal of illegal parking lots and encroachments from model roads, including Ferozepur Road, Jail Road, Allama Iqbal Road, Peco Road, Shaukat Khanum Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg and Mall road.
The meeting was attended by officials of MCL, Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Lahore Parking Company, assistant commissioners and police officers.
“Steps are being taken for removal of encroachments, illegal parking, wall chalking from the model roads for which the MCL, Traffic Engineering Planning Authority (TEPA) and police and are working jointly. The MCL is also focusing on other parts of city, besides the model.”
He instructed the Lahore Parking Company to conduct a survey of schools and colleges located on the model roads and submit a report on how the space around schools and colleges could be utilised to minimise traffic woes.
Similarly, he directed the MCL staff to conduct a survey of buildings and plazas on the roads and prepare a report on parking space available there. He also directed traffic police to ensure traffic wardens performing duties on model roads. The mayor constituted five teams consisting of police, LDA, MCL and LPC for ensuring removal of encroachments, wall chalking, illegal parking, posters and banners.
