Two miners were killed while two others fell unconscious due to the leakage of poisonous gas at a coal mine in the Dukki area of Balochistan on Saturday.
Upon getting the information, the rescue teams arrived at the scene and shifted the victims to the hospital for medical assistance. The rescue officers said that the incident took place due to a lack of precautionary measures.
Earlier, nine labourers lost their lives after an explosion occurred at a coal mine in Kohat’s Darra Adam Khel.
A senior local police official, Muhammad Ejaz, confirmed the incident and said that the police were investigating the matter.
Pakistan’s coal mines are notorious for poor safety standards. On August 13, at least 18 miners were killed after a blast tore through a coal mine in Sinjidi village near the south-western city of Quetta.
In a similar incident, at least 43 miners were killed in Sorange district of Balochistan in 2011.
