A prominent leader of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and the former Balochistan Home Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, won the election for a Senate seat by defeating Rehmatullah Kakar, an opposition candidate, on Wednesday.
During the by-election on vacant seat of Senate from Balochistan, the ruling party (BAP) candidate secured 37 votes and his rival candidate from the combined opposition got 20 votes.
The provincial Senate seat was vacated after the general elections that were held on July 25, 2018 when a former senator Naimatullah Zehri decided to retain his Balochistan Assembly seat and resigned as a senator.
In addition to Bugti and Kakar, three other members who contested for the vacant seat included Amir Rind, Allauddin Marri and Mir Ghulam Dastagir.
