ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of the stamped ballot papers found in garbage in Karachi’s Qayyumabad area.
Citizens discovered stamped ballot papers from a trash heap which had apparently been burned. The ballot papers were from the constituencies NA-241 and PS-160. Voter cards were also found alongside the ballot papers.
Local representative of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) came to the site almost immediately and took away the ballot papers. According to their claims, most ballot papers were casted in favour of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and their own parties.
As the news became viral on social media, ECP has ordered the returning officer and the provincial election commissioner to submit a detailed report pertaining to the matter, while ECP spokesperson Altaf Khan has said that harsh measures will be taken against those responsible for such criminal offense.
