LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday arrested senior Bureaucrat Fawad Hassan Fawad in Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case.
NAB officials said that the top civil servant was arrested after questioning under the charges of causing a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
The Bureau had earlier today summoned Fawad for interrogation in the housing scheme scam.
Fawad has previously appeared before the bureau three times.
The top bureaucrat has previously served as former premier Nawaz Sharif’s principal secretary.
On June 1, Fawad was appointed as director general of Civil Services Academy, Lahore after being removed from the post of principal secretary.
The bureaucrat is accused of illegally awarding contracts for Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme of the Punjab Government. He is also under NAB’s clutches for possession of assets beyond income sources and illegal award of CNG contracts.
NAB officials said that the scheme was originally won by Chaudhry Latif and Sons construction company, however Sharifs awarded the contract to Lahore Casa developers, a proxy group of Paragon City (Pvt) Limited.
Former chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also been summoned by NAB many times while Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Chairman Ahad Cheema is on judicial remand after his arrest.
