MANCHESTER: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Naeemul Haque has claimed that an economist should head the caretaker government when the incumbent Parliament’s tenure comes to an end.
Speaking in the United Kingdom (UK), the PTI leader said that the law should govern the election exercise, and thus, elections should be held no later than the 31st of July.
He further added that only the Supreme Court had the prerogative to postpone elections if it deemed that preparations were inadequate.
Haque also touched upon the recent ouster of 20 party members from the PTI, claiming that it did not affect the party.
The PTI leader had also revealed in a BBC Urdu interview on Monday that the PTI had chosen former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and economist Ishrat Hussain as its candidates for the country’s caretaker prime minister.
