KARACHI: A protest was staged on Tuesday in front of K-Electric’s (KE) head office following prolonged power outages in Karachi.
Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar led the demonstration including members of city council during which protesters chanted slogans against KE for over-billing consumers and long hours of load-shedding.
Previously, KE had indirectly said that load-shedding will increase in Ramazan due to the heat and increased demand. KE had justified that the increase in power outages was due to high load and with shortage of gas following a blame-game between KE and Sui Northern Gas Company (SSGC).
KE had alleged SSGC of cutting gas supply which added to the power outages; however, SSGC denied any such claims, saying KE still had to pay them.
KE and SSGC recently negotiated the issue of dues, after which SSGC assured assistance to KE for controlling load-shedding.
