DADU: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said that the country is facing internal and external threats despite continuous operations against non-state actors to root out terrorism.
The Senate chairman was speaking at the 42nd death anniversary of former Sindh Chief Minister Pir Ilahi Bux at Pir Ilahi Bux Law College Dadu on Sunday. He was joined by Provincial Assembly of Sindh Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Former Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Pro-Vice Chancellor (PVC) Sindh University Dadu Campus Dr Anwar Ali Shah G Syed, former Railways minister Haji Zafar Laghari, Pir Mazhar Ul Haq and others. Raza Rabbani said that the parliament had to assume its historic role of uniting the nation and all institutions should function according to the constitution.
He said that the external threats Pakistan faced were against its sovereignty. He praised the role played by the parliament in the Yemen crisis; Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case; response to the US President’s policy on Afghanistan; and the outright rejection of some international powers’ attempt to assign the role of regional policeman to India.
Rabbani said that the parliament was the chain which kept the federation united.
Rabbani said that Zulfiqar Ali (ZA) Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto were martyred protecting the country and its constitution and that they refused to accept dictators’ demands. The Senate chairman said that PPP representatives had to step forward to protect the country’s constitution.
The senator acknowledged the role played by former Sindh Chief Minister Pir Ilahi Bux in Sindh’s development. He said that Pir Ilahi Bux’s efforts for the creation of Pakistan with Quaid-e-Azam would never be forgotten, reminding everyone that Sindh Assembly’s first bill was passed by Pir Ilahi Bux. Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani said that history tells us Pir Ilahi Bux worked tirelessly to serve the country, and his grandson Pir Mazhar Ul Haq had continued Pir Ilahi Bux’s hard work.
Durrani said that bogus cases registered against him and other party leaders were all proven to be baseless. He said that 22 bogus murder cases were also registered against Qaim Ali Shah. He said the PPP representatives mustn’t fear bogus cases and follow ZA Bhutto’s polices. He said that dedicated workers such as Pir Mazhar were not enough in the party. The speaker also said that he was proud of Bilawal Bhutto’s leadership of the party and work for the country’s development.
Former Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah targeted PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s public address in Naushahro Feroze and said that perhaps the PM had forgotten the fact that it was PPP who worked for the 18th Amendment of the Constitution of Pakistan. He said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was damaging national institutions and kept blaming the PPP governments.
Qaim Ali Shah also blamed PML-N for Pakistan’s steel mill crises. He credited ZA Bhutto for strengthening the steel mill industry and blamed PML-N’s policies for its demise. At the occasion, PVC Sindh University Dadu Campus Dr Anwar Ali Shah G.Syed praised the efforts of Pir Ilahi Bux and Pir Mazhar for the advancement of education and in Dadu and Sindh. He said that Sindh University Dadu Campus was established in 2010 after Pir Mazhar’s efforts as a provincial minister. He stated that there were now more than one thousand students studying at the Dadu campus.
