KARACHI: Major outage in the international submarine cable system IMV, extending from India till France, could not be fixed in entirety due to which Pakistan continued to observe slow internet on Sunday as well.
Internet users faced difficulties after the 13,000km-long IMV cable faced a technical fault near Jeddah on Saturday.
Authorities failed to fix the inoperative CMV 4. Out of six internet cables available in Pakistan only two remained operative, while the others remained affected by the technical fault.
“An international consortium is trying to determine the technical fault and time required to fix it,” a Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) spokesperson said.
According to General Manager PTCL Imran Janjua, efforts are underway to shift the internet to other cables.
“Outage in international submarine cable systems providing internet bandwidth to Pakistan, IMEWE. Customers will face slow internet browsing,” PTCL tweeted on Saturday.
“International consortium working to resolve international submarine outage issue. Inconvenience to customers is regretted.”
“Another international cable system SEA-ME-WE 4 is already under repair by the international consortium.”
“We have successfully arranged for additional bandwidth through our international cable systems & partners. Things will start getting better,” the company posted on Twitter late Saturday.
TWA and Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) are the only two companies with landing rights in Pakistan for internet and voice data traffic.
