GUJRANWALA: The supply of narcotics has increased in the city and more and more young men and women are getting hooked on it, drug addicts were mostly spotted in parks and specially at railway lines while as a big part of railway line is located besides the GT Road, the passersby and families also witnessed these groups of drug addicts smoking drugs even in the daylight but it is astonishing that police and other agencies had taken no action against them.
According to reports, groups of these teenagers are involved in various street crimes and drug addiction among the youth is on the rise in and around the city. Sources told that drugs are delivered to the end users in the streets, mostly by young women and teenager boys.
The traffickers are in the age group of 15-40 years and to evade the law enforcing agencies, a number of drug pushers have started taking orders, from their customers, on mobile phones and delivers the good at a place best suited to them.
Heroin is the most commonly used drug followed by cannabis and opium. There has been an increasing trend of use of injections among the addicts, which has lead to a rapid rise in diseases, such as hepatitis, among others.
A drug addict Sajid said that we gather at the railway lines and enjoy smoking heroin, hashish opium and sometime also other drugs. He said that most young drug addicts were also involved in the street crimes and drug peddling in the city.
He said that drug addicts, especially hashish smokers, converged at railway lines and shrines to enjoy consuming varieties of drugs. Police, he said, never showed up there nor wardens took care. He said that there were selling points at the parks and blind corners in the city while mobile suppliers were operating to ensure home.
Citizens demanded the police authorities to take notice of the matter and concerned police officers should be directed to conduct raids at railway lines, parks and other places to eradicate this menace. They also stressed the need for parental care and urged government to review juvenile justice system ordinance to save future of the young generation.
