LAHORE: The most popular animal of the Lahore zoo Suzi, which died last week suffered from multiple diseases as suggested by the post-mortem report.
She was suffering from several diseases including ulcers and infection in her intestine and high uric acid. The report of the 31 year old elephant revealed that she had ulcers and several diseases.
Apart from these aliments, there were signs of liver problems and heart disease. It was also discovered that she had fallen to the ground at night and struggled for almost four hours to survive.
The post-mortem was performed by the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) doctors.
Suzi, the lone elephant of the zoo was brought to Pakistan when she was only six years old. She died early as even the elephants living in captivity are expected to live for at least 50 years.
Other than poor treatment, negligence was also a reason for the elephant’s death.
