ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) lack of evidence against the prime minister in the Panama Papers case prove his innocence.
She pointed out that the Supreme Court proceedings into the case prove that Nawaz Sharif has no connection with the Panama case.
Talking to the media, she said allegations levelled against him have proven to be false. She added that the PTI had no evidence at hand to prove its allegations.
The minister highlighted that the PM had given mega development projects to the country, contributing to various sectors including road infrastructure, health, education reforms and national counter terrorism policy. She pointed out that these developmental works made Imran Khan jealous of the premier.
She said Imran Khan only wanted to disrupt the development of the country. She added that with the blessings of the Almighty, Sharif would soon take his agenda of development forward.
“Imran Khan should pay heed to my words that from now on, Pakistan will only move forwards and that the country’s premier is none other than Nawaz Sharif,” she said.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maiza Hameed also agreed that the PTI chief was jealous of the prime minister’s development projects. She said that it was evident that the PM did not own any offshore accounts.
“Imran Khan can see Khyber Pakhtunkhwa slipping from his hands,” Maiza added.
National Assembly Member Daniyal Aziz noted that another member of the PTI’s legal counsel had run away from the Panama Leaks’ legal proceedings. He also pointed out that the money trail for the accounts in question had been submitted in court, questioning where the PTI’s tall claims had now gone.
Aziz said that all of the PTI’s allegations had been proven wrong.
“A lawyer who called himself a stepney has now run away,” he said, in a jibe at PTI’s lawyer Naeem Bukhari.
PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry said that the Prime Minister’s legal attorney had answered all allegations against him during the proceedings.
A day after PTI lawyer Naeem Bokhari had concluded his arguments in the Panama Leaks case, Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan said that his client was neither a director, share holder nor a beneficial owner of any offshore company.
Speaking outside the court premises, Talal Chaudhry said, “Imran Khan should stop leveling allegations against the Prime Minister,” he said. “Maryam Nawaz is the hope for Pakistan,” he added.
