LAHORE: The Muslim Town Police registered a case on Wednesday against 12 persons accused of torturing a Punjab University Law College student.
The police registered a case under sections 147, 149, 342 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code against 11 unidentified men and one nominated suspect, Amir Hamza, on the complaint of Suhail Ahmed.
Ahmed informed media that 12 people entered his hostel room and severely tortured him. Ahmed quoted the attackers as saying that they were teaching him a lesson for tweeting in support of a missing blogger.
Punjab University provincial Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said the administration had taken notice of the incident.
A university official informed media that Amir Hamza was a former student of PU and was a member of the Islami Jamiat Talaba.
IJT spokesman Taimur Khan said they had expelled Hamza from the group last year. Taimur said that IJT was against violence on campus and had no link with Amir Hamza.
