ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani on Tuesday highlighted the need for enhancing parliamentary cooperation between Pakistan and Belarus.
He was talking to a parliamentary delegation led by Vladimir Andreichenk, the chairman of the House of the Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
He said that regular interaction between parliamentarians of two sides would go a long way in placing the relations between Pakistan and Belarus at a high pedestal. “Parliaments serve as vital bridges in forging people-to-people contacts and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation,” Raza Rabbani said.
Mian Raza Rabbani said that ties between the two have grown at unprecedented pace during the last couple of years. “Upper Houses of both Pakistan and Belarus have also signed a historic memorandum of understanding (MOU), which provides a necessary platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation,” Rabbani said. The Senate chairman also expressed satisfaction over vibrant economic cooperation in different sectors. “The concept of Parliamentary diplomacy is evolving fast and parliamentarians can resolve issues through dialogue and discussions,” he said. Mian Raza Rabbani pointed out that tremendous potential existed for boosting cooperation in the field of education, health and mutually beneficial fields.
He said that the multi-faceted cooperation was a testimony to the fact that the two sides attached huge importance to strengthening of the bilateral relations and multi-sector cooperation.
The delegation also visited the monument of “Unsung Heroes of Democracy” and paid glowing tribute to the unsung heroes of democracy and laid a wreath on the monument. The delegation also visited Gali-e-Dastoor where it was briefed about the parliamentary and democratic history of Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by Senate Deputy chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Leader of the House in the Senate Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq as well as senators Najma Hameed, Sajjad Hussain Turi, Sardar Muhammad Azam Khan Musakhek, Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Mohsin Khan Leghari, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Dr. Jehanzeb Jamaldini, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Hidayatullah, Muhammad Talha Mehmood, Taj Haider, Dauood Khan Achakzai and Barrister Saif Ali Khan. Senate Secretary Amjed Pervez was also present during the meeting.
