LARKANA: The Government Middle School Bhoonbhatpur has never been made functional for the last 12 years due to which over 1000 students of more than 15 villages are suffering.
A visit to the school on Monday showed that the building was converted into a cattle farm where villagers are regularly fastening their cattle. The Education Department constructed the school in 2005 after spending Rs 10 million.
The building has now been surrounded by water-logging & salinity but if minor repairs are carried out quickly it can be used.
If the school is made functional then students of Bhoonbhatpur, Bhoot Kharos, Budho Jeho, Faiz Muhammad Jeho, Jehan Khan Khakhrani, Bahman, Bhutta, Jatt, Sharif Abro, Shikari Shaikh, Amir Bux Narejo and Rahuja will be facilitated.
Villagers Jamil Ahmed, Ghulam Ali, Zuhaib Abro and Asghar requested to make the school functional. They added that previously two teachers were posted at the school but none of them arrived and soon they got themselves transferred.
Former MRD convener Hussain Bux Narejo said that late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto fought for the rights of the people and provided many remarkable educational institutions to Sindh but it is unfortunate to see that the PPP has failed to get the school opened. He urged higher authorities to make the school operational immediately. No officials were available for comment at the District Education Officers Office Larkana.
