ISLAMABAD: Newly appointed Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Dr Muhammad Irshad, a senior officer of the Inland Revenue Service working in BPS-22, has assumed the charge of the office of revenue secretary. The FBR issued a notification on Tuesday in pursuance of the Establishment Division’s notification to this effect. The government last Friday had given the additional charge of the Revenue Division secretary to Finance Secretary Tariq Bajwa after a high-power board meeting. The decision of giving additional charge had been widely criticised by the FBR officials, and in this regard, a pen-down strike continued from Friday in Karachi and Lahore offices. Pakistan Inland Revenue Service Association Secretary General Asif Abro, while talking to Daily Times, said, “I, on behalf of my association thank the Prime Minister for giving the slot to the officer already hailing from the Revenue Division.”
