The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances has disposed of 3,555 cases of missing persons out of a total of 5423 cases till September 30, 2018, said an official handout issued on Monday.
A total of 5,349 cases were received up to August 31, 2018 to the commission on missing persons. During September 2018, 74 more cases were received to the Commission and now the total number of cases is 5423, said the handout. The handout further stated that the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances has disposed of 36 cases during the month of September and now, 1868 cases are pending till September 30, 2018.
The Commission has conducted 356 hearings, 265 hearings in Islamabad, and 91 in Karachi during September 2018. The efforts of Justice Javed Iqbal, President of the National Commission for Enforced Disappearances and other members have been appreciated as the commission has recovered 3555 missing persons up to September 30, 2018, besides ensuring their safe return to their homes.
“As President of Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, Justice Javed Iqbal not only gives personal hearing to each family of missing persons but also tries his best for the earliest recovery of the missing persons. The relatives of missing persons have also acknowledged the remarkable efforts of Justice Javed Iqbal,” the handout said.
