The children of Afghan refugees born in Pakistan deserve citizenship, Prime Minister Imran Khan said Tuesday at the National Assembly.
“Children born in a country automatically have the right to get citizenship of that country,” Khan said. “(Afghan refugees) are getting exploited … This is a human rights issue.”
International law forbids refusing asylum to refugees, Khan explained. According to the 1951 Pakistan Citizenship Act, anyone born in the country becomes citizen of the country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf continued to receive criticism for dam funding. The government needs to get serious, Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan said. “I’ll see how much money (PTI) will be able to collect,” he said.
