KARACHI: The weather department predicted a heavy first monsoon rain with lightning and thunder in the metropolis on Thursday.
In the previous week, Karachi has suffered an intense hot and dry weather wave, but today there is a heavy cloud cover and weather is pleasant already, however, citizens are waiting for the first drop to pour down.
According to the Director Pakistan Meteorological Department Abdul Rasheed, the expected duration of rain is one week, whereas, the rain is not expected to be heavy throughout the week. The maximum of 22 mm rainfall is expected in the city, he added.
Rasheed also added that the July and August will bring a heavy rainy season for Karachi.
After the declaration of rain emergency, as per the requirement, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board prepared water-drainage machines, generators, and cranes to handle any unfortunate situation. Moreover, it also instructed its field staff to remain on a 24-hour alert.
On the other hand, pre-monsoon rain has started in many parts of Punjab.
