LAHORE: An appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday announced its verdict over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s rejection appeal for NA-95 Mianwali candidacy.
Justice Faisal Zaman Khan had earlier reserved the verdict over Khan’s appeal seeking dismissal of Returning officer’s rejection decision.
The appellate tribunal gave a green signal to Khan, rejecting the RO’s objections.
During the hearing, Khan’s counsel Babar Awan argued that his client had declared all his assets in the nomination papers.
Earlier the RO had rejected Khan’s nomination papers on grounds that the affidavit was not submitted prior to the deadline, adding that Khan had failed to mention the total worth of the declared assets.
Awan had pled the tribunal to declare the RO’s decision null and void, adding that Khan should be allowed to contest elections from NA-95.
However, it was brought to the tribunal’s attention that the oath commissioner had not attested Khan’s affidavit. Lawyer Jahandad added that PTI chief’s signatures were different on every page.
Earlier on Saturday, appellate tribunal had issued a notice to the RO over rejection of Khan’s nomination papers for NA-95 Mianwali constituency.
PTI chief Khan’s candidacy from NA-53 Islamabad had also been rejected.
