ISLAMABAD: Nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for NA-53 were on Tuesday rejected by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The nomination of Khan was rejected over violation of Section N of the affidavit, which relates to the contribution of a candidate in his or her own constituency.
Justice and Democratic Party candidate Abdul Wahab had filed objection against Khan’s candidacy before the RO.
Counsels of the both Khan and Wahab recorded statements before the RO after which the PTI chief’s nomination papers were rejected.
Imran’s counsel and PTI leader Babar Awan termed the objections as “fraud”. “People who had been in the past punished according to law and constitution are contesting elections, while objections are raised against Khan despite the fact that no case is registered against him.”
On the other hand, nomination papers of the PTI chief for NA-131 Lahore were approved.
