PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Thursday amicably parted ways from their coalition in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Last week, the JI announced that they were breaking ties with the ruling PTI after the restoration of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
Today, in a joint press conference along with the KP Cheif Minister Pervaiz Khattak, JI leaders formally announced quitting the coalition government.
“We have established a good political tradition by parting ways on a friendly note,” JI’s Inayatullah Khan said.
In 2013 general elections, The PTI won 34 seats, but its strength further increased with reserved seats and 10 Independents also joined them. It managed to form a coalition government with the JI. The JI had the local government and finance ministries in the alliance.
The PTI is now confident of getting a simple majority in KP in next general elections and has already announced that they would not form any coalition. However, The JI will contest 2018 elections from the platform of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
