LAHORE: Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday condemned the firing incident at Supreme Court Judge Justice Ijazul Ahsan’s residence.
“I condemn the attack on Justice Ijaz’s residence. Those who are responsible for the incident must be brought to justice as soon as possible,” PM Abbasi said.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the attack terming it as ‘suspicious’. He added the incident should be judicially investigated and that those involved must be brought to justice.
PPP co-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demanded a transparent investigation into the matter and provision of security to all judges.
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahirul Qadri termed the incident as “an attack on Pakistan and the Supreme Court.” He demanded that the full-proof security be provided to the ATC judge hearing the Model Town case.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar, Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah, Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal also condemned the incident.
Unknown gunmen opened fire at Justice Ijaz’s residence in Model Town in two separate incidents – one of which took place around 10:45pm on Saturday and the other at 9:10am on Sunday. No casualties were reported.
