LAHORE: Religious party staging protest by blocking numerous key routes of Lahore on Friday called off its protest against the government.
The party said that if the government didn’t adhere to its demands of registering First Investigation Report’s (FIR) against suspects involved in killing of party workers in Faizabad protests last year, the protest will continue after Friday prayers.
After the protest was called off, the traffic resumed on Grand Trunk (GT) Road as well as Lahore’s exit and entry routes.
The religious party called off the protest after an agreement with the government for registering FIRs and releasing Raja Zafarul Haq’s committee report.
They protested in various cities including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Shiekhupura, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin and Peshawar.
Lahore district administration had suspended Metro Bus Service after the protest hit the streets causing traffic congestion in the city.
The religious party had held the federal capital for three weeks last year by blocking the Faizabad Interchange, bringing the city to a standstill. The protests last year came to an end after the resignation of Law Minister Zaid Hamid.
